Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has hailed the backing of former governor Dr. Peter Odili, affirming that it’s causing a stir among his detractors, who are experiencing high blood pressure due to Odili’s support.
Odili recently affirmed Fubara as the political leader of Rivers State during a declaration that has intensified the ongoing political drama involving Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
During the inauguration of a health centre last Thursday, Odili voiced strong support for Fubara, encouraging him to align closely with the president’s policies and elevate the state’s influence in federal affairs.
“Our people said I should tell you to stand firm with the President, align with his quality policies and carry Rivers people to the engine room of government in the Federal Republic in Abuja,” Odili advised.
The political strife between Fubara and Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, traces back to last October, with key figures in the state choosing sides in this high-stakes battle for control.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara relayed his gratitude for Odili’s endorsement, which he claimed has agitated his adversaries. “Even his person alone is giving people high blood pressure. They are restless, granting all sorts of media interviews,” Fubara stated, underscoring the impact of Odili’s support.
Fubara reiterated his commitment to supporting the health centre funded by the PAMO Educational Foundation, an initiative by Odili, emphasizing the importance of giving back to the community.
“It is natural that when God blesses you, such time should come when you say ‘Let me return those blessings to society’,” Fubara noted, adding that the genuine ‘I’ agenda represents impactful, personal contributions to societal development, as reported by The Punch.
The governor urged the public to continue supporting Odili, describing him as “integrity and character personified” and essential for the state’s progress.
Fubara concluded, “Greatness is the value that you give to yourself; greatness is the respect that you preserve for yourself so that even when you’re being insulted, you look around and say, ‘I know my value; I will not bring myself down’.”
