The trial of Chidinma Ojukwu, the undergraduate accused of murdering Super TV CEO Usifo Ataga, took a crucial turn on Tuesday as forensic expert Dr. Richard Somiari testified that blood found on Chidinma’s red dress matched that of the victim.

Testifying as the eleventh prosecution witness at the Lagos High Court, Dr. Somiari revealed that the DNA analysis confirmed the match, providing compelling evidence linking Chidinma to the crime scene.

Led by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs. Adenike Oluwafemi, Dr. Somiari, a seasoned forensic analyst with over 15 years of experience, detailed the meticulous examination process involving 21 items received for evidence, including Chidinma’s dress and DNA samples.

While the DNA on the dress matched Ataga’s, it did not correspond to Chidinma or the other suspects initially charged alongside her.

Under cross-examination by the defense counsels, Dr. Somiari reaffirmed the integrity of the forensic process and clarified his role, emphasizing the distinction between forensic analysis and toxicology.

Following a request, the court viewed the crime scene video, prompting further questions about tested blood samples and storage protocols.

As the proceedings went on, Justice Yetunde Adesanya adjourned the trial until May 30, recognizing the gravity of the evidence presented.

Chidinma Ojukwu and her co-defendants were arraigned on charges including conspiracy, murder, and theft in October 2021, marking a pivotal moment in the high-profile case.
