After defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), he became the Enugu state governorship candidate of the party in 2015 and remained a chieftain of the party until his death

During his tenure in the Senate, Eze held significant roles, serving as the chairman of the Senate Committee of Works, and contributing as a member of committees on Constitutional Amendment, Police Affairs, National Planning, Marine Transport, and Federal Character & Inter-Government Affairs.
