A duo accused of preying on passengers, allegedly using hypnotism and threats to rob them, narrowly avoided a fiery mob justice in Umuahia, Abia State.
The unfortunate incident happened near the famed Golden Guinea Breweries along Aba road in the heart of Abia’s capital.
Eyewitnesses claim the robbers employed tactics such as hypnotism and brandishing sharp objects to coerce victims into surrendering cash and phones, which were later exploited to siphon funds from their accounts.
Their streak of ill fortune came to a head when a vigilant former victim raised the alarm upon spotting them aboard their tricycle.
A surge of anger-fueled locals descended upon the duo, pummeling them and wrecking their getaway tricycle.
One witness, Moses Nnakwe, recounted how the suspects, faced with the swelling mob, purportedly admitted to their crimes, pleading for clemency.
Despite their pleas, the enraged crowd continued the assault, with some threats of setting them ablaze looming.
Thankfully, the intervention of community elders spared the accused from the grisly fate.
As of this report, the Abia State Police Command had yet to comment on the incident.
