Alaba Excel Abbey, a dedicated campaign coordinator for incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, met a tragic end as he was brutally assassinated in his home.
Abbey, who played a crucial role as a ward coordinator for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF), was fatally shot at his residence in Supare Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area.
According to reports, Abbey also served as the returning officer for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 10 during the party’s recent primary elections.
Confirming the devastating news, Abbey’s younger brother, Samuel Abbey, revealed that the assailants attacked his brother in front of their home.
In response to the heinous act, the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF) condemned the assassination and called for urgent action from security agencies to protect its members from such violent attacks.
Speaking on behalf of the campaign organization, spokesperson Kayode Fasua emphasized Abbey’s active involvement in Governor Aiyedatiwa’s campaign activities up until his untimely death.
David Ajobiewe, the Director-General of LACO-FS in Akoko Southwest Local Government, mourned Abbey’s loss, describing it as a significant tragedy for the campaign team.
“Excel had been a resourceful coordinator for the Aiyedatiwa campaign organisation in Ward 10 of Supare and was never known to be violent and never had any history of a local or domestic dispute.
“We urge the police authorities to step up investigations into his gruesome murder and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book,” Daily Trust quoted him as saying.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya assured that the state command had initiated an investigation into the brutal killing, pledging to uncover the truth behind the tragic event.
