Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, is demanding the return of misappropriated funds, including those allocated for the airport project, from the previous administration led by Okezie Ikpeazu.
Speaking in Nvosi during a solidarity visit, Otti reiterated his administration’s commitment to recovering stolen funds for the betterment of Abia State, as reported by Magic FM.
“We’re not targeting anyone; we just want accountability,” Otti stated, insisting that funds allocated for the airport, which was never built, should be reimbursed.
Continuing, he said, “I established a forensic audit of our accounts as soon as I was sworn in and the report turns out that a lot of money was looted, stolen brazenly and part of the ones I mentioned was the N10 billion Abia Airport Project.
Expressing disappointment at media attacks following his disclosure of the forensic audit findings, Otti reaffirmed his focus on Abia State’s progress.
“They started insulting me. If you follow what is happening in the media, you would know that what I said is true.
“We are looking for our money. If we are not able to find the airport, they would have to refund us our money.
“We are not pursuing anybody, they should refund the money they stole, let’s use it to work for our people.
“Our place must develop. We will continue to build roads, we will continue to clean up the environment, we will continue to create jobs,” he further added.
Meanwhile, the solidarity visit by Rowland Chinwendu and supporters was hailed as a positive gesture by Otti.
Chinwendu, in his remarks, pledged to represent his constituents’ interests while expressing gratitude to Otti for ongoing infrastructure projects in his constituency.
