Civil rights activist Aisha Yesufu has insisted that the two Abia State House of Assembly members who recently defected to the Labour Party should forfeit their seats.
It would be recalled that Mr. Iheanacho Nwogu and Mr. Fine Ahuama, formerly members of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), joined the Labour Party on Tuesday, and were welcomed by Governor Alex Otti.
Reacting to the defections, Yesufu, a prominent Labour Party chieftain and supporter of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, criticized the lawmakers’ actions.
On her official X handle, she wrote, “Hope they are ready to also lose their seats. This nonsense where people are voted on a party ticket and then decamp to join the ruling party needs to be punished by the law. You should have the right to decamp, but you must forfeit the seat you won on another platform.”
