Nigerian defender Kennedy Ezeji, a standout player for the Special Eagles, has been voted Man of the Match in their opening game against hosts Egypt at the ongoing Amputee Nations Cup.
Ezeji, who balances his football career with running a Point-of-Sale (PoS) business, delivered a strong defensive performance, helping the team secure a goalless draw at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo on Saturday.
Reflecting on the accolade, Ezeji told PUNCH Sports Extra, “I am very happy, first of all, because we played against the host nation and we were able to prevent them from intimidating us with their fans. I thank God too and I dedicate the award to my teammates and every member of the technical team who played their parts as well.”
Despite facing financial challenges that forced him to pause his POS business, Ezeji remains optimistic.
“Yes, I run a POS business but I had to stop due to some financial reasons associated with amputee football. But I hope to revive it soon when I get a club in Turkey,” he added.
