Governor Abba Kabir has reinstalled Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano, four years after his deposition by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
The announcement came via the Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to the governor, Kwankwason Tuwita, who posted a video of the coronation ceremony on X.
Tuwita had previously hinted at the event, stating, “All is set for the presentation of appointment letter to His Highness the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II CO.”
Sanusi arrived in Kano late Thursday without much fanfare and is expected to lead the Jumu’at (Friday) prayers at the Kano Central Mosque located at the palace in Kofar Kudu.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf officially approved Sanusi’s reappointment on Thursday after signing a newly passed bill that abrogated the four additional emirates created in 2019 by former Governor Ganduje’s administration.
“I have approved the reappointment of Khalipha Muhammadu Sanusi II as the emir of Kano,” the governor’s aide quoted him as saying.
In addition, the governor issued a 48-hour notice for all the deposed emirs to vacate their palaces.
