Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State met with National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu on Thursday at Ribadu’s office in Abuja.
While the specifics of their discussion were not disclosed, Governor Yusuf described it as a “fruitful engagement” with the NSA.
The meeting occurs against the backdrop of a fierce battle for the Kano throne. Governor Yusuf recently dethroned Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as Emir of Kano and reinstated Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi.
In response to his dethronement, Governor Yusuf asked the police to arrest Ado Bayero for “creating tension” in the state.
Ado Bayero, who established his own court at the mini Palace in Nassarawa, received military protection, suggesting federal support.
Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo accused Ribadu of backing Ado Bayero’s return to Kano.
Ribadu denied the allegation and threatened to sue Gwarzo, demanding an apology.
Gwarzo has since issued an unreserved apology to Ribadu, admitting he was misled.
