The Edo State Government has appealled the Federal Court’s judgment that reinstated Philip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of the state.

Dissatisfied with the lower court’s ruling, the state government  filed a stay of execution before the Court of Appeal.

The government insists that Omobayo Marvellous Godwins remains the State’s deputy governor until the case is resolved.

State Commissioner for Orientation and Communication, Hon. Chris Nehikhare, stated, “Pending the hearing of the appeal of the judgement, the incumbent Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Omobayo Marvellous Godwins remains and continues to serve as the valid Deputy Governor of Edo State. He will continue to serve in this capacity and would be recognised as such. The government hereby calls on the people of Edo State to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses.”

Justice James Omotoso of the Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier set aside Shaibu’s impeachment, ruling that his removal violated legal provisions and ordering his reinstatement.

The court also instructed the Inspector General of Police to restore Shaibu’s security details.
