Abia State Governor Alex Otti has committed to ending corruption and divisive governance in the state.
Speaking at Wesley Methodist Church in Umuekwule Afugiri, Umuahia, during a thanksgiving service, Governor Otti asserted that many past leaders of Abia did not come to power through the will of the people but through electoral manipulation.
“For the first time in several years, the Abia people installed their own government. And I said it without any fear of contradiction because I am from here. I know that a lot of people who have sat on the seat that I am sitting now didn’t come through the ballot box but through manipulations,” Otti declared.
He emphasized that future leaders in Abia State would emerge through the popular will of the people.
Accompanied by top members of his cabinet and some legislators, Governor Otti expressed gratitude to the church for its prayers and support for his administration.
He pledged to practice good governance and ensure the equitable distribution of democracy’s dividends throughout the state.
Governor Otti also stated that his administration considers anyone living and paying taxes in the state as an Abian, regardless of their state or local government of origin.
In his sermon, the officiating priest, Very Rev Ogbonnaya Orji, encouraged the congregation to anchor their faith in God.
