Senate President Godswill Akpabio has summoned an emergency Senate meeting to address issues of national importance.
A circular seen by MUK TV, signed by Clerk Chinedu Akubueze, confirmed the meeting will take place on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, just a day before a nationwide protest against hunger and hardship is set to begin.
The circular emphasized the urgency but did not provide further details.
Senators have been urged to prioritize attendance, despite the ongoing seven-week recess that began after the plenary session last Wednesday.
The circular acknowledged the inconvenience caused by interrupting the recess but stressed the necessity due to the gravity of the issues to be discussed.
The Senate and House of Representatives were initially scheduled to reconvene on September 17, 2024, following their annual break.
