Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has made history by qualifying for their first-ever Olympics Basketball quarter-final after a thrilling 79-70 victory over Canada on Sunday.
In a hard-fought game, Nigeria lost the second and fourth quarters 23-19 and 24-19, respectively, but a dominant third quarter, where they outscored Canada 23-5, proved decisive.
The first quarter ended in a tie with both teams scoring 18 points.
Abia-born Ezinne Kalu led the scoring for Nigeria with 21 points, Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah topped the rebounds chart with 7, and Promise Amukamara contributed the most assists with 6.
This victory means D’Tigress have won two of their three group games, scoring a total of 208 points and conceding 207.
