Nigeria’s female basketball team, D’Tigress, has achieved a historic milestone by climbing to eighth place in the latest FIBA world rankings.

This leap of four spots makes them the first African team, male or female, to break into the top 10 globally.

The team’s remarkable rise is largely attributed to their stellar performance at the Paris Olympics, where they made history by becoming the first African team to reach the Quarter-Finals.

D’Tigress secured impressive victories over Australia and Canada during the group stage, before being narrowly defeated by the USA in the Quarter-Finals.

This achievement also earned head coach Rena Wakama the title of best coach of the women’s basketball event.

The USA continues to hold the top spot in the global rankings, followed by Australia, France, China, and Spain rounding out the top five.
