Two women, Ujunwa Una and Chinelo Igbechionwu, were arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for their involvement in the illegal sale of newborn twin girls.

The arrests were made by officers from the Ojodu Division during a patrol at Berger bus stop, following a tip-off from concerned citizens.

Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the suspects were found with two newborn girls, approximately six days old, on September 9, 2024.

The women had travelled from Abia State and were allegedly en route to deliver the infants to a nurse in Lagos, who was to be contacted upon their arrival.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being paid N150,000 to transport the babies. They further revealed that the twins’ mother had sold them, citing her inability to care for the children.

The case has been transferred to the command’s gender unit, and the newborns are now in the custody of a motherless baby home, receiving proper care and medical attention.

The suspects were arraigned on September 19, and authorities are working to track down others involved in the trafficking operation.
