A member of the House of Representatives (name withheld) was on Wednesday politely walked out from plenary for improper dressing.
One of the House rules prescribes a dress code for members attending plenary, as members are expected to dress in suit and tie or in traditional dress with a cap to match.
Contrary to the House rule, MUK TV gathered that the House member, whose name could not be ascertained, walked into plenary towards the end of the day’s proceedings and sat in the second used as an alternative Chamber by the members.
Through an order raised by Hon. Billy Osaweru (APC, Edo) the attention of the House was drawn to his colleague’s improper dressing, which he said contravened the dress code for members of the House.
He said, “Mr. Speaker, our rules state the need for proper dressing while coming for plenary. Mr. Speaker, if you look upstairs, there is a member in Chamber wearing a T-Shirt and jean trousers.”
While Hon. Osaweru was still raising the point of order, the member stood up and walked out of the Chamber with Speaker Tajudeen Abbas saying out loud “Point of order complied with.”
