Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has inaugurated the newly elected chairmen of the 23 local government areas following their victories in the local council elections held on Saturday.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Sunday at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt, amidst rising tensions with Fubara’s former political ally, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
MUK understands that Fubara strategically timed the event to avoid potential legal disruptions from Wike’s camp.
Of the 23 chairmen, 22 were elected under the Action Peoples Party (APP), while one emerged from the Action Alliance.
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) declared the results, confirming the APP’s dominant win across most LGAs.
Governor Fubara congratulated the new chairmen and urged them to focus on delivering their campaign promises and improving the welfare of their communities.
The ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including Bauchi State Governor and PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed, who showed his support.
Each chairman, accompanied by a guest as per state government directives, is now expected to promptly assume their roles and begin work on local development initiatives.
