The 16th Headies award nomination list has been released few days ago and it’s not void of controversy as Artists rake for recognition of their songs and fans agitate for their favorites. The nomination list includes Asake making history by being nominated the next rated and artist of the year categories, considering his back to back hit singles we can all agree he was definitely going to be on the list.
Some of the category nominations failed to adhere to the rules of the award show and this was seen in the nomination of Odumodu blvck, who is not a rookie in the rookie of the year category, and Tems who didn’t operate within the Nigerian landscape last year for best female arstist. Some notable omission and curious nominations in some categories according to fans preferences; chike and flavor r&b category, Adekunle’s ‘’party no dey’’ stop for best collabo, was omitted and a whole lot more.
The biggest names on the list include Burna, Asake and Rema while Olamide and Wizkid who has been Headies recipents over the years took a back seat this year and Davido with very few nominations despite dropping a new album recently. This year’s nomination list reflected the growth of Afrobeats in the industry and we are hoping for more.
