President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian motorists to either purchase petrol at N1,000 per litre or opt for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at N200.

The statement was made during a meeting with NIPCO executives at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday.

The President commended NIPCO for its role in advancing the country’s energy transition through its support of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI).

He acknowledged the company’s efforts in promoting CNG as a viable alternative to petrol, aligning with his administration’s goals for energy security and economic diversification.

Noting the importance of public-private partnerships, Tinubu highlighted NIPCO’s contribution to the “Switch to CNG” campaign, which has increased public awareness and provided affordable CNG conversion kits ahead of the initiative’s official launch.

“CNG, being a cleaner and more affordable fuel, reduces the carbon footprint and saves consumers significant fuel costs. Nigeria’s motorists can buy petrol at N1,000 per litre or equivalent gas per Standard Cubic Meter at N200. We have also introduced incentives for commercial motorists to convert from petrol to gas ‘free of cost,’” Tinubu stated.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for private investments while encouraging NIPCO to continue its innovative CNG expansion efforts, supporting the broader national energy objectives.

In response, NIPCO’s Director, Mr. Ramesh Kasangra, expressed gratitude for Tinubu’s continued support of the CNG sector. He assured the President that the company is dedicated to investing in infrastructure to make CNG more accessible across the country, reinforcing NIPCO’s long-standing commitment to Nigeria’s energy future.
