An airstrike by the Nigerian Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) has reportedly neutralized approximately 70 fighters and commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in a targeted attack in Borno State. The November 6 operation focused on ISWAP camps in southern Lake Chad, delivering a critical hit to the militant group’s strongholds.

The precision strikes targeted camps led by the notorious ISWAP commander Usman, specifically around Kwallaram and Arainna Ciki islands near Jibilarram in the Marte Local Government Area. Ground assessments confirmed the successful elimination of over 70 militants at the Kwallaram site, according to sources familiar with the operation.

Counterterrorism expert Zagazola Makama, citing insider sources, noted that while the exact number of casualties at Arainna Ciki remains undetermined, significant losses were reported. This mission is being hailed as one of OPHK’s most impactful strikes against ISWAP to date.

Following the successful airstrikes, intelligence reports indicate that ISWAP began mobilizing reinforcements from its Sambisa wing. The regrouping of fighters is reportedly taking place in the areas of Kusuma and Sigir within Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area. Fighters from Sambisa Forest and northern Cameroon have been observed joining the regrouped forces under Usman Russia’s command.
However, the group’s specific intentions remain unclear.

Military sources assert that further efforts are underway to monitor and disrupt ISWAP’s movements as OPHK intensifies operations across the region.
