The victory joy of Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo has been short-lived as the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has reaffirmed Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as the legitimate President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
This decision upholds the earlier ruling by the Industrial Court on March 11, 2024, in Suit No. NICN/ABJ/263/2023.
MUK TV recalls that Oluomo, a prominent foot soldier of President Bola Tinubu, emerged as the NURTW National President in a parallel election held in Ondo State last week.
However, in a judgment delivered on Friday, November 8, 2024, the three-member appellate panel, consisting of Justices Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi, dismissed the appeal filed by Najeem Usman Yasin, Tajudeen Agbede, and others, deeming it to lack merit.
The Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment with Appeal No. CA/ABJ/CV/293/2024 confirmed Baruwa as the bona fide and lawfully elected President of the NURTW.
The appellate court further awarded N100,000 in costs against the appellants and in favor of the respondents.
The court enrollment order stated:
“THIS COURT ON FRIDAY THE 8TH DAY OF NOVEMBER, 2024
“UPON READING the Record of Appeal compiled and transmitted before this court together with the respective briefs of argument; AND AFTER HEARING, O. I. Olorundare, SAN with F.T Sotikare, Esq, and Jimoh Balogun, this Appeal is devoid of merit and the same is hereby dismissed.”
This ruling solidifies Baruwa’s position as the union’s leader, bringing closure to the contentious leadership tussle within the NURTW.
