Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans, a convicted billionaire kidnap kingpin, on Thursday, made a passionate plea for mercy before the Lagos State High Court.

Through his lawyer, Etudo Emefo, Evans expressed remorse for his past actions, stating that he has undergone a transformation during his time in Kirikiri Maximum Prison.

Evans revealed that he has obtained a teaching diploma in economics from Yewa College of Education and is now a teacher at the correctional centre in Kirikiri.

He claimed that the Federal Government of Nigeria awarded him a scholarship while in prison, enabling him to further his education.

As part of his plea bargain agreement, Evans offered to surrender all his properties, including 14 brand-new trucks, to the Lagos State Government.

The proceeds from the sale of these trucks would be transferred to the victims of his criminal activities.

Evans, the lawyer said, also underwent training in welding and metal fabrication through the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity and successfully passed all relevant tests.

Additionally, he was offered admission to the National Open University of Nigeria under the Federal Government’s scholarship scheme and is currently in his second year, studying Political Science.

The prosecuting counsel, Alaba Kuku, confirmed that Evans’ counsel had given him an advance copy of the application, which is currently before the state government for consideration.

The court is yet to rule on Evans’ plea bargain application.
