Former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has once again turned to football—his favourite sport—to drive home a political point, using Arsenal FC’s recent triumph as a metaphor for the power of unity in coalition politics.
Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, Atiku applauded the Premier League club’s display of teamwork and cohesion, tying it to the broader national conversation about opposition alliances ahead of the 2027 general election.
“Arsenal just taught us a lesson in consolidating our strengths in a coalition vehicle. Victory is assured when we stand united,” Atiku wrote.
His comment comes amid ongoing talks and debates about the viability of political coalitions to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.
While the PDP Governors’ Forum has recently ruled out participation in any merger or coalition, Atiku continues to push for unity among opposition forces.
Known for his passion for football and loyalty to Arsenal FC, Atiku has frequently used sports analogies to connect with younger Nigerians and amplify his political messages.
