The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rolled out the red carpet for Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, indicating an open invitation to join its fold after the governor hinted at a possible departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Governor Eno, during a constituency outreach in Ikot Akpankuk, Ukanafun Local Government Area, had likened the PDP to a grounded aircraft and subtly suggested he may be eyeing a more “airworthy” political platform.

“If you wanted to travel with Ibom Airline and, on the verge of taking off, it developed a fault that won’t enable it to fly, won’t you board the next available plane to take you to your destination?” Eno asked constituents at the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency meeting.

Interpreting the statement as a sign of readiness to defect, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, responded with enthusiasm in a statement released Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

“As safety and comfort are prerequisite conditions for flying, our great Party assures the Governor that Plane APC is fit and ready to fly His Excellency and entourage to their desired destination.

“Our pilots and crew are highly competent, welcoming, attentive to detail, and on standby to serve.

“We assure Governor Eno that a flight with us will be a mighty good ride to remember,” Morka declared.

The overture comes amid growing internal crisis within the PDP, which has recently witnessed high-profile defections—including that of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori—raising questions about the party’s internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.
