Former Jigawa State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Sule Lamido, has predicted an imminent split in the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming that the party’s national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and other defectors will soon return to the PDP.
Lamido made this assertion while delivering a keynote address at the PDP congress held at the Aminu Kano Triangle in Jigawa.
“I’m confident that all those who left the PDP will return, including Ganduje, because very soon, the APC will burst and split into factions, having accommodated people with different mindsets,” Lamido said.
He further stated, “I said it, and I repeat: within six months, all those who defected to the APC will come back, and the PDP will rise with full force to wrest power in 2027.”
Lamido’s comments come amid ongoing defections of PDP senators, governors, and House of Representatives members to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, a trend some analysts warn could tilt the country towards a one-party state.
Others predict an internal crisis within the APC due to the influx of opposition members, potentially leading to fragmentation.
However, Lamido urged his party members not to be discouraged by the defections, attributing the moves to fear of intimidation and harassment.
Reacting to Lamido’s remarks, APC National Director of Publicity, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, dismissed the claims as wishful thinking.
Speaking to Daily Trust, Ibrahim said, “The PDP is dreaming because it is getting depleted every day. They have now started hallucinating, thinking that there will be a reverse trend. But APC is stronger and is not threatened by anything as to warrant a counter defection.”
