Nigerian Sprint sensation Favour Ofili delivered a historic performance on Saturday at the 2025 Adidas Atlanta City Games, smashing the world record in the women’s 150m with a stunning time of 15.85 seconds (2.0m/s) at Piedmont Park.

The 22-year-old track star became the first woman in history to dip below the 16-second barrier in the rarely run event, eclipsing the previous world best of 16.23 seconds set by Bahamian Olympic gold medalist Shaunae Miller-Uibo in 2018.

Ofili’s jaw-dropping run sent shockwaves through the track and field world and headlined a remarkable day for Team Nigeria at the high-energy, street-style athletics showcase.

Joining the spotlight was Tobi Amusan, the reigning world record holder in the 100m hurdles, who finished second in her heat with a time of 12.53 seconds, just behind American star Keni Harrison (12.44s). Amusan comfortably advanced to the final, continuing her steady rise in form ahead of this summer’s global competitions. She had previously clocked 12.74s in Xiamen and 12.66s in Keqiao.

Also flying the Nigerian flag high was Udodi Onwuzurike, who recorded a season’s best of 10.20 seconds to place second in his 100m heat, trailing South Africa’s Akani Simbine (10.13s). The performance earned Onwuzurike a place in the final and marked a strong return to form in his 2025 campaign.

The Adidas Atlanta City Games, known for its unique fan-focused format held outside traditional stadiums, transformed the streets into a thrilling arena for world-class competition, drawing large crowds and global attention.

With record-breaking performances and strong showings across the board, Nigeria’s athletes once again demonstrated their growing dominance on the international sprint scene.
