Ahead of the November 11, 2023 governorship polls in ImsoState, the state governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election, Hope Uzodimma, has officially unveiled his running mate.
In the unveiling ceremony that took place at the Landmark Event Center in Owerri on Saturday, the governor presented Mrs. Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru to the Imo State APC stakeholders as his running mate.
The choice of Mrs. Ekoramu as Uzodimma’s running mate came at the expense of Prof. Placid Njoku, his current deputy, whom he has dumped.
Defending his decision to dump the incumbent deputy governor for a new running mate, Uzodimma said, “The choice of a new running mate does not mean I have issues with the present Deputy Governor Placid Njoku. But it’s due to ecumenical and political permutations.”
Mrs. Ekomaru, who is from Mbaitoli Local Government of Imo State, is a lawyer by profession, a human resources management expert, and a community leader.
She is expected to boost the chances of Governor Uzodimma’s re-election bid against strong opponents like Senator Sam Ayanwu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Athan Achonu of the Labour Party (LP), and Lincoln Ogunewe of the Action Alliance (AA), among other contenders.
While Ogunewe and Senator Anyanwu are from the Imo East senatorial zone, Senator Athan is from Imo North, and Uzodimma is from Imo West.
