Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Ogochukwu Oliseh has stirred up quite a bit of controversy after he distanced himself from the Igbo ethnic group during a recent public address.

“My name is Sunday Ogochukwu Oliseh. I hail from a small village in Delta State called Abavo. If you’re an Igbo person listening to me, I’m sorry — I’m not Igbo,” Oliseh stated.

His comments have ignited a wave of reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning why someone with an Igbo name would choose to disassociate from the tribe, while others argue that ethnic identity can be quite complex in regions like Delta State.

Some folks see it as a harmless clarification, while others think it’s an unnecessary distancing from tr!bal ties.
What’s your take? Was he just stating facts — or was it shade?
