President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has drawn a line under tensions with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, declaring on Saturday that he had forgiven him, saying, “It’s all over now. All is forgiven.”
The president’s remarks followed a closed-door reconciliation meeting with members of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), who had come to seek clemency on behalf of the governor and others reportedly out of favour with Tinubu.
Chairman of the GAC, Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi, who formally received the president in Lagos, acknowledged the strain in the relationship, noting that Tinubu had been displeased with certain individuals in the state, especially Governor Sanwo-Olu.
Sources privy to the meeting revealed that Tinubu reassured those present that he bore no lingering resentment. In a traditional show of contrition, Sanwo-Olu and several GAC members reportedly prostrated before the president.
Though the precise cause of the rift was not disclosed, the gathering centered on restoring unity and closing ranks.
The president’s acceptance of the apology was described by insiders as a significant moment of political reconciliation.
