Major General Ali Shadmani, the newly appointed head of Iran’s military emergency command, has been eliminated—just days after replacing his predecessor, Maj. Gen. Gholam Ali Rashid, who was killed on Friday.
Shadmani had been in charge of the Khatam-al Anbiya Central Headquarters, Iran’s top combat command center, which oversees the country’s war strategy and attack operations.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Shadmani was effectively Iran’s most senior military figure, regarded as the “war chief of staff” and the closest ally of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
“He commanded both the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and the Iranian Armed Forces,” the IDF says.
The military also stated that under Shadmani’s leadership, the Khatam-al Anbiya HQ “was responsible for managing combat operations and approving Iran’s attack plans.”
“In his various roles, he had a direct influence on Iran’s offensive plans targeting the State of Israel,” the IDF says.
Prior to taking the helm following Rashid’s death, Shadmani served as deputy commander of the same headquarters and was also chief of operations for Iran’s armed forces.
