The Sokoto State Government has announced its willingness to engage in dialogue with repentant bandits as part of broader efforts to end the persistent insecurity in the region.

Speaking with journalists, the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor, Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd), reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to non-violent solutions alongside military operations, describing dialogue as a viable path to peace.

He said, “We wholeheartedly welcome any development that promotes peace and security in our region.

“It’s important to recognise that, historically, many conflicts have ended not solely through force, but through dialogue.

“In Sokoto, we’re open to engaging in negotiations with bandits who are genuinely willing to surrender and embrace peace.”

Col. Usman’s comments underscore the state’s two-pronged security strategy—supporting ongoing military efforts while also addressing the underlying causes of banditry through community engagement and peacebuilding initiatives.
