Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has boldly declared that his administration has constructed more roads than all his predecessors — Achike Udenwa, Ikedi Ohakim, Rochas Okorocha, and Emeka Ihedioha — combined.

Speaking during his State of the State Address at the Imo State House of Assembly in Owerri on Tuesday, Uzodimma said his administration had set a new pace in infrastructure development.

“Without sounding immodest, we have constructed more roads than all previous administrations since 1999, combined. From the dualised Owerri-Orlu and Owerri-Okigwe roads to the MCC-Toronto-Uratta corridor, this administration has shown that government can indeed be responsive to the people’s needs,” Uzodimma stated.

He said over 120 roads have been completed so far, while several others remain under construction across the state.

“In the past 18 months alone, we delivered 37 brand new roads, an iconic edifice — the International Conference Centre — and a befitting Government House Annex in Orlu,” he added. “We have also delivered the Assumpta Flyover and the new Concorde-Hilton Hotel as landmark legacy projects.”

Uzodimma disclosed that President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to visit Imo in August to commission several of the ongoing projects, while the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has committed to installing lighting on the newly built roads.

In the education sector, the governor said 305 primary schools had been renovated across all wards, alongside several secondary schools. He also confirmed that the state is currently funding five tertiary institutions and thanked President Tinubu for the approval of a ₦39 billion take-off grant for a new federal university in the state.

On healthcare, the governor highlighted the full recovery of the Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH), the renovation of 305 health centres, and upgrades to general hospitals across the state. He also announced the creation of the Imo Health Insurance Scheme for free medical care and said all three nursing schools in the state have regained accreditation.

Addressing the issue of security, Uzodimma said peace has returned to Imo and warned that any acts of banditry or violence would be firmly dealt with.

The governor also touched on sports and youth empowerment, stating that Imo had won 85 medals under his tenure and that 40,000 youths have been trained in digital skills and given startup funding.

Reaffirming his commitment to reforms, he maintained that his administration remains focused on judicial development and people-driven governance.
