Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota has died in a tragic car crash at the age of 28, according to Spanish news outlet MARCA.

The fatal accident reportedly took place along the A-52 motorway, at kilometre 65, near Palacios de Sanabria in Spain’s Zamora province.

Jota, born in 1996, was a crucial asset to both Liverpool FC and the Portuguese national team. His unexpected death has left the global football community in mourning.

MARCA confirmed the shocking news on Thursday, stating, “Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota dies in a traffic accident in the province of Zamora.”

The publication also noted that the forward died at the scene of the accident.

Renowned for his relentless drive, sharp finishing, and adaptability on the pitch, Jota had become a fan favourite and a dependable presence in both club and country jerseys.

As of press time, official statements from Liverpool FC or the Portuguese Football Federation are yet to be released. Details surrounding the crash and funeral arrangements remain unknown.
