The official website of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) suffered a major technical breakdown on Friday following a sudden spike in traffic from Nigerians eager to join the newly formed opposition coalition party.
According to multiple online reports, including confirmations from IntelRegion, the party’s site became inaccessible due to overwhelming user demand, just days after the ADC was unveiled as the primary platform for a new political alliance aiming to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
A viral post on social media suggested that the website’s server infrastructure was not equipped to handle the surge in registrations. One Facebook user, Unclè Anass Dukura, said he encountered repeated error messages while trying to access the platform. “The public demand far exceeded what the platform was originally built to support,” he noted.
The ADC, which was originally founded in 2005 as the Alliance for Democratic Change, has become the focal point of Nigeria’s latest political realignment after being chosen as the banner party for the opposition coalition. The coalition was formally launched on Wednesday in Abuja, positioning itself as a “rescue mission” to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his APC-led administration.
Among the high-profile figures who have thrown their weight behind the movement are former Senate President David Mark, ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Others present at the coalition’s unveiling included former APC National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun, ex-Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Attorney General Abubakar Malami, Senator Dino Melaye, former Minister Solomon Dalung, media mogul Dele Momodu, Senators Gabriel Suswam and Ireti Kingibe, former Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha, and retired Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
As of press time, the ADC had not released any official statement addressing the website’s crash or plans to upgrade its digital infrastructure.
The incident underscores the mounting interest in the opposition alliance and signals a growing political shift ahead of the 2027 polls, with many Nigerians expressing readiness for an alternative to the current administration.
