Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, has recalled a memorable encounter with the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a man whose concern for the poor deeply resonated with him.

Speaking with journalists at the Third Day Prayers held in honour of the late Nigerian leader, Obi reflected on the values Buhari shared with him during the heat of the campaign season.

“I had the opportunity of meeting late Muhammadu Buhari while I was campaigning, and I remember his words till today, and he said to me, please care for the poor Nigerians, and that is all I always remember, and I believe he did his best within his capacity,” Obi stated.

Obi, a former Anambra State governor, said Buhari’s message has remained etched in his memory, reinforcing his personal mission to uplift the poor and fight inequality in Nigeria.

On the lessons Nigerians can draw from Buhari’s legacy, Obi emphasized the importance of humility and national service.

“We have to all learn how to serve our country, knowing that one day we will all be called back by our creator,” he said.

According to Obi, “Buhari’s sincere appeal for fighting and caring for the poor” is a perfect description of a man who lived a life of simplicity.

President Muhammadu Buhari passed away on Sunday in a London hospital following a brief illness.

He was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites.

Thousands statesmen, leaders, loyalists, and supporters gathered to pay their final respects to a man whose leadership left a lasting impact on the nation.
