President Bola Tinubu has said that Nigeria’s history would have been incomplete had he lost the 2023 presidential election.

Speaking on Sunday at the 8th Day Fidau prayers for the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, held in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Tinubu paid glowing tribute to the revered monarch for playing a pivotal role in his political journey and eventual triumph at the polls.

He stated, “Our history would not have been completed, carefully and richly, if I failed the last election.

“I was successful because of your support and the blessing of late Awujale. I came to him, he blessed me.. He said ‘you will win that election and you will win one more time. Go ahead.’

“Today, he is no more. He is gone.”

President Tinubu praised Oba Adetona for his wisdom, courage, and unwavering support for democracy, particularly during the struggles of June 12.

He also acknowledged the contributions of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, describing him as the “Okanlomo Eleyi of Ogun State,” for his dedication before, during, and after the monarch’s burial.

Governor Abiodun, in his remarks, urged the people of Ijebuland to remain united and uphold the legacy of peace, harmony, and principled leadership exemplified by the late Awujale. He encouraged residents to live with integrity and be law-abiding in honour of the monarch.

Delivering a brief sermon, the Chief Imam of Gbagura, Prof. Kamaldeen Bello, reminded the congregation of the certainty of death, urging all to live purposefully.

“We will all taste death, so live as though today is your last,” he said.
