The Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government has fulfilled its pledge of cash rewards to the Super Falcons following their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Olopade disclosed that the players’ bonuses had been settled in full, with only a few payments pending due to account verification issues with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Olopade said.
On the promise of housing, the DG explained that discussions were ongoing between the Ministry of Housing and the Renewed Hope Homes initiative to deliver the apartments to the champions without unnecessary delay.
The Federal Government had pledged $100,000 each to the players, $50,000 to members of the technical crew, and a three-bedroom apartment after the Falcons staged a dramatic 3-2 comeback against Morocco to clinch the continental crown.
Olopade reaffirmed that the administration remained committed to honouring all aspects of its promise, stressing that the players would receive both their cash and housing benefits.
