Donald Trump was given a warm welcome at Windsor Castle by King Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales as his controversial – and unprecedented – second state visit got underway.

Trump is being hosted by King Charles and treated to a ceremonial welcome, including a lavish state banquet on Wednesday evening. Keir Starmer will be hoping to cement the pair’s good working relationship and move on from a difficult few weeks, including the sacking of the UK’s ambassador to the US, Peter Mandelson, over his relationship with paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Amid expected widespread protests, giant images of Trump, Epstein, Virginia Giuffre and Prince Andrew were beamed onto Windsor Castle on Tuesday night in an embarrassing start to the visit.

The mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan, who has previously clashed with the US leader said “President Donald Trump and his coterie have perhaps done the most to fan the flames of divisive, far-right politics around the world in recent years”.

While UK officials may have been keen to keep Trump out of the public eye, protesters made their way to Windsor today to make their voices heard.

There has been a heavy police presence outside of the castle, as well as security details from both the US and the UK.
