The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday, addressed the impact of his administration’s projects in Abuja.
He revealed that his critics and opponents continue to benefit from the infrastructures his team executed across the capital city.
Speaking while flagging off the construction of the Transit Way, N2, linking the Central Area to Wuse District with two bridges, Wike addressed the ongoing use of his administration’s projects.
He noted that his critics exploit the roads, water supply, and other infrastructures provided by his team.
“I told you that when you are doing your work, people may hate you.
“All those who hate us are using the road, all those who hate us will use the water, they will use the street light,” Wike stated.
He added, “So it’s an opportunity to improvise for them, you don’t need to worry yourselves, they are just looking for an opportunity to come closer to us, and because we are very strict.
The only way they can come closer to us is to blackmail us; unfortunately, we don’t know the meaning.
There is no blackmail in our dictionary. The only thing that we know in our dictionary is to work to the satisfaction of our people.”
Wike also threatened to redeploy the FCT Mandate Secretary on Security over his failure to provide updates on the construction of 12 police stations across the capital city.
Director of Security, we have built not less than 12 police stations, and up till now, you have not come to tell me how many are ready.
The day I go and find out, that is the day that you will go to the Institute of Policy Studies so that you will allow another person to do the job,” Wike warned.
He emphasised that leadership is not merely ceremonial. “Being director is not to wear Agbada and black cap, your assignment is to see that you hand over the police stations so that we have improved security,” he said.
Wike concluded that the ongoing flag-off of projects will continue until October 20, after which additional initiatives aimed at boosting the FCT’s economy and landscape will commence.
