PRESS RELEASE

The Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU), on behalf of the Paramount Ruler of Ebem Ohafia Ancient Kingdom, HRH Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha (JP), the Ebem Council of Chiefs and Elders, and the entire sons and daughters of Ebem Ohafia, deeply mourns the passing of one of our most illustrious sons and revered ministers of the gospel, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, Founder and President of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Uyo.

Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed on to glory on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80, was not just a preacher, he was a prophetic voice, a spiritual general, and one of Africa’s greatest evangelists. Through over six decades of dedicated ministry, he touched millions of lives across nations with his fiery evangelism, dynamic teaching, and miraculous demonstration of God’s power.

Born in Asaga Ohafia, Rev. Dr. Ukpai proudly carried the light of Ohafia heritage to the global Christian stage. His crusades, humanitarian works, and mentorship of countless ministers of God placed him among the greatest ambassadors of faith from Abia State and Nigeria at large.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Mr. Ifeanyi Okali, Publicity Secretary of EODU, described his passing as “a monumental loss to the Christian world, Abia State, and the entire Ohafia Kingdom.”

“Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai was a true servant of God whose life exemplified faith, humility, and service to humanity. He made Ohafia proud and carried the banner of Christ with courage and grace. We celebrate a life that was fully spent in God’s service,” — Ifeanyi Okali, Publicity Secretary, EODU.

The Ebem Ohafia Community extends heartfelt condolences to the Ukpai family, the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, the Christian community, and the people of Asaga Ohafia. While we mourn his earthly departure, we find comfort in knowing that he has finished his race and now rests in eternal peace with the Lord.

“To live is Christ, and to die is gain.” — Philippians 1:21
