Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed supplying thousands of attack drones to the United States Armed Forces in return for long-range missile systems, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, amid Kyiv’s ongoing push for advanced weaponry support.
In a move signaling deeper defense cooperation, President Volodymyr Zelensky offered to provide the United States with a large arsenal of one-way attack drones, a category currently in high demand by the Pentagon. According to senior Ukrainian defense officials, the drones would be manufactured in Ukraine and delivered under an expedited timeline to meet U.S. operational needs.
In exchange, Kyiv is requesting access to advanced long-range weapons primarily BGM-109 Tomahawk Land Attack Cruise Missiles capable of striking targets deep within enemy territory. Such systems, previously restricted for export, could significantly enhance Ukraine’s deterrence capabilities amid continued hostilities on the eastern front.
U.S. defense analysts view the proposal as an intriguing test of Washington’s evolving security partnership with Kyiv under President Trump’s administration, which has sought to balance support for Ukraine with broader global defense priorities. Pentagon spokespersons have declined to comment publicly, stating only that discussions on advanced weapons cooperation remain “ongoing and productive.
