Argentina’s ruling coalition led by President Javier Milei is projected to secure a decisive victory in the nation’s midterm elections, strengthening his mandate to push forward sweeping economic and political reforms.

Early results from Argentina’s electoral commission on Sunday night indicate that President Milei’s Liberty Advances coalition is set to gain a majority in both chambers of Congress, a result that would significantly enhance the president’s ability to pass key legislation.

Milei, who took office in December 2023, campaigned on a platform of aggressive economic liberalization, deregulation, and austerity measures aimed at stabilizing Argentina’s struggling economy. Analysts say the midterm results suggest that voters continue to back his reform agenda despite months of inflation and unpopular spending cuts.

Opposition parties, led by the traditional Peronist bloc, conceded ground in several provinces once considered safe strongholds, signaling a shift in national politics. International observers described the vote as free and fair, reflecting the public’s desire for continued change.

With a strengthened Congress, Milei is expected to accelerate his plans to reduce government intervention, privatize state enterprises, and overhaul Argentina’s tax code. However, social tensions remain high, and unions have warned of fresh protests if austerity measures deepen.
