A member of the House of Representatives, representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency of Imo State, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, has warned the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, against bringing the National Assembly into disrepute because of the issues he has with him.
Ugochinyere’s warning came immediately after a news report insinuated that Uzodinma and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas was having a face-off, with the former accusing the latter of promoting Ugochinyere to whittle down his and the All Progressives Congress (APC) political control in Imo State.
In the report, Uzodimma is believed to be angry with Abbas for reportedly giving Ugochinyere, who is a member of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a juicy position by appointing him as the chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum (Downstream).
In a statement on Wednesday, Ugochinyere described the report as a failed attempt at intimidating the Speaker of the House to begin to take instructions from the Governor of Imo State.
While demanding a retraction of the statement from Uzodimma and an apology to the parliament, the federal lawmaker lamented that the newspaper publication tried to undermine the integrity and privileges of the parliament.
Ugochinyere said, “My attention has been drawn to newspaper reports obviously sponsored by the Imo State Government aimed at violating the privileges of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas. Hope Uzodimma is now preaching loyalty to President Tinubu; this is the same President Tinubu that Hope Uzodimma promised to disgrace and spent huge resources financing Senator Ahmad Lawan in the failed childish attempt to disgrace at their party primary.
“Will Uzodimma be reporting to Tinubu if he is defeated at the primary?”Uzodimma should go and report anyone he likes to his president, Ahmad Lawan, and himself, who was the imaginary VP. There must be an end to the shameless act of trying to blackmail people when you do not get what you do not even deserve in the first place. Was it Abbas who helped me defeat your candidate, who won only one polling unit out of 346 polling units in the Ideato Federal Constituency? Even your wife and all your commissioners, local government chairmen, and hundreds of advisers lost their polling units to me.
“Hope this joke is not real because, first of all, we are not your House of Assembly that requires the permission of Uzodimma’s wife to seat, nor is this united, focused, and stable 10th Assembly the property of somebody like Uzodimma. The speaker does not discuss anything concerning Uzodimma with me. He has serious national issues to discuss.
“Hope has gone to the tribunal to cook a judgment on pre-election, all in his desperation and fear of the unknown against me. Still, he is not comfortable because he is just realizing that, despite all these, I remain unshakable. Let him not drag the Speaker and our leaders into his childish, panicky blackmailing of people. We are a federal parliament and cannot be seen as a state house of assembly, especially that of Imo, which sends all motion papers to the Government House for review before they sit on a few chosen dates by the governor in a year. This house we are building is a joint task, and our leaders have carried the multi-party interest along, This stability and unity is what is painful.
“Uzodimma and he want to cause division and attempt to reduce a people’s parliament to Imo Assembly status.”
