The leadership of the Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has warned against fraudsters posing as delegates at the party’s convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, insisting that no authentic delegate from the state participated amid the party’s deepening national crisis.
While issuing a disclaimer on the alleged participation of Jigawa delegates, the Chairman of the sate chapter of the PDP, said in a statement posted on his personal Facebook page on Saturday night that the chapter remained firm in boycotting the Ibadan convention in line with the Federal High Court judgment restoring the rights of party leader, Sule Lamido, to contest the chairmanship.
Gumel’s post came hours after the Ibadan convention kicked off despite a fresh Federal High Court order halting the event.
The ruling reaffirmed Lamido’s eligibility to take part in party leadership processes.
These impostors do not represent us; Jigawa PDP is committed to genuine reconciliation and legal processes that unite, not divide, our great party,” Gumel said, urging members and the public to ignore any fraudulent claims and focus on resolving the national crisis through dialogue.
He condemned those parading themselves as delegates.
“Some people are claiming to be elected delegates representing Jigawa in this ongoing factional purported convention,” he wrote.
This stance complies with the court judgment favouring Lamido’s participation in party processes.”
“We are not participating in the convention,” Gumel affirmed, adding that “the decision underscores Jigawa’s loyalty to legal directives and internal reconciliation efforts.”
Expressing concern over the handling of the party’s affairs, he said, “We are saddened by the way our party affairs are being handled, especially the current crisis rocking its foundations.”
According to him, despite the challenges, the Jigawa PDP remains committed to unity.
“Our chapter is resolute in participating only in processes that will reconcile our party.
“We call upon leaders to reach out to all aggrieved parties and find a solution to this crisis,” he urged.
