The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on count one of the terrorism charges filed against him by the Federal Government.
In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, the court held that the prosecution successfully proved its case, establishing that Kanu made multiple broadcasts aimed at inciting violence and encouraging killings in pursuit of his separatist push for a Biafran state.
Justice James Omotosho, who presided over the matter, said the decision was anchored on what he termed “uncontroverted evidence” presented by the Federal Government, which the defence failed to disprove.
According to the court, the recordings and testimonies tendered by prosecutors showed a clear pattern of incitement that fell squarely within the scope of terrorism under Nigerian law.
