Abia 2027 governorship frontrunner, Sir Mascot Uzor-Kalu, has rolled out a progressive development agenda, declaring that the state is long overdue for real leadership, real progress and real accountability.
Addressing journalists in Umuahia, Kalu said Abia’s rebirth demands sincerity, people-first governance and investment in sectors that touch everyday life.
He argued that the state has all it needs to thrive, except the political will to unlock its full potential.
“My commitment to Abia’s growth is not driven by politics but by a genuine desire to see our state reach the heights it deserves.
“We have the talent, the resources and the resilient spirit to rebuild and reposition Abia. What we need is leadership that is ready to do the work and stay accountable to the people,” he said.
At the heart of his blueprint is a massive push for stronger and financially autonomous local governments.
The former Abia Chief of Staff warned that rural communities will continue to suffer if councils remain starved of funding.
“As governor, I will ensure that every local government receives its full statutory funding promptly and transparently so that they can deliver essential services to the grassroots,” Kalu stated.
“When councils are empowered, rural roads improve, health centres function, agricultural programmes become effective and communities begin to flourish. That is the kind of progress I want for our people,” he added.
Kalu also vowed to revive agriculture, boost small-scale industries and expand opportunities for young people, insisting that Abia’s wealth must spread far beyond its urban centres.
“Our young people need opportunities that match their energy and creativity,” he said.
“We must build an economy that supports farmers, artisans, innovators and small business owners. Abia can become a hub of productivity if we direct development to where the people actually live and work.”
He pledged major overhauls in education, healthcare and infrastructure, anchored on transparency and measurable results.
In his words, “Abia deserves a restoration. Abia deserves a future built on integrity and hard work.
“I am fully committed to partnering with communities, traditional leaders, youth groups and professionals to move our state forward.”
