The political rift between the Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, and his deputy, Lucky Ayedatiwa, may have gotten to its crescendo as plots to impeach the latter are fully underway, MUK TV can report.

This comes as the Ondo State House of Assembly reportedly commenced impeachment proceedings against the embattled deputy governor over alleged gross misconduct.

A reliable source disclosed to Vanguard that some lawmakers have signed the impeachment notice against the deputy governor.

An emergency plenary session summoned by the assembly leadership and the presence of heavy security operatives at the assembly gate yesterday give credence to the alleged impeachment plans.

The Assembly has also reportedly served an impeachment notice to the embattled deputy governor.

It was alleged that Aiyedatiwa, while acting as governor, following the medical vacation of the governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, reportedly approved N300 million for the purchase of a bulletproof SUV for his personal use.

The deputy governor, according to the allegation, diverted the $300 million from the palliative fund released by the federal government to states, which was meant to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal.

Recall that since the return of Governor Akeredolu from medical vacation in Germany, Ayedatiwa has fallen out with his principal, who was accused of insurbation while the governor was out of the country.

The deputy governor, amongst other things, was also said to have nursing governorship ambition, hence his attempt to undermine Akeredolu’s government and pushing for his incapacitation during his medical vacation.

Recently, the sacking of media aides of the deputy government by the governor, as reported by MUK, was one of the indications the relationship amongst the duo had worsened, despite the denial by both parties.
