The political atmosphere in Abia state got heated up on Monday as the State Government stormed and sealed President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Partners (RHP) campaign in Umuahia without prior warning.
The office, located on busy Ojike Street, is part of the South East mobilisation structure championed by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu.
But staff arrived to find bold government notices pasted on the walls, and the building locked down.
An RHP official, refusing to be named, told Vanguard he resumed work only to meet a sealed office, saying the action came “without any information or warning.”
The Ministry of Lands and Housing accused the property of violating state tax regulations, posting a stern message that read:
“Ministry of Lands and Housing. This property is in contravention of Sections 41 and 100 of the Abia State Tax Law (Codification and Consolidation), Law No. 7 of 2020. And it’s here by sealed.
“Any person, including the owner/ occupier, neighbour(s) or passer(s) by,who attempts to unseal this building is in contravention of the Abia state tax law No.7 of 2020. Be warned. Keep off.”
Attempts to reach the phone numbers listed by the ministry for clarification were futile, as the lines were unreachable at the time of filing this report.
With political camps now whispering, tensions continue to simmer over what many see as a fresh power play in Abia’s rising political battlefield.
