Gunmen posing as security operatives opened fire on Dr. Chris Ngige’s convoy along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North, spraying bullets on the pilot vehicle in a brazen daylight ambush.
Ngige, former governor of Anambra State, was not in the convoy when the attackers, dressed in fake police and military uniforms, opened fire.
A policeman in the lead car was shot, and the gunmen carted away his rifle and uniform after riddling the vehicle with bullets.
According to reports, a woman who attempted to record the attack on her phone was shot dead instantly.
A nearby shop owner who rushed out to see what was happening was also shot.
He lost massive blood but has undergone surgery and is expected to make a full recovery, as the bullets narrowly missed his spine.
The escort leader who was shot has also been operated on and is responding well.
Ngige confirmed the attack, promising to ensure the wounded receive full medical care.
He also expressed grief over the woman killed while filming the scene.
The Anambra State Police Command has not yet issued an official statement on the ambush.
